When Austin and Koto reached out to me about collaborating, they expressed their exhaustion with the more popular, commercial (read:American) methods of advertising real estate videos– sweeping drone moves, 360 gimbal shots, and ultra wide lenses — they weren’t against those things on principle, but they wanted to capture the experience of walking through the building during an actual tour. They shared several Japanese lifestyle and architecture videos on Youtube which emphasized a modest, understated realism. Together, we hoped to integrate the ethos of those videos with “locked down” slow cinema influences like Chantal Akerman, Lisandro Alonso and Michael Antonioni. The result was the Ardmore Home Tour, an eleven minute fly-on-the-wall inspection of the house’s shapes, shadows, and reflections from the bottom up.
